The District operates a water treatment plant rated to treat 150 mgd of potable water, which utilizes surface water diverted from Folsom Reservoir, a federal Central Valley Project facility. The District’s water supplies include senior pre-1914 and post-1914 appropriative water rights, and contractual entitlements from the United States Bureau of Reclamation and Placer County Water Agency. In addition to the water treatment plant, the District owns and operates a significant network of transmission and distribution pipelines, pump stations, and storage facilities in northeastern Sacramento and southwestern Placer Counties. These facilities include those serving the retail service area of the District and those facilities supplying the wholesale territory of the District.
The Water Treatment Plant Operator reports to the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent and is responsible for performing a variety of skilled technical work in the operation and maintenance of the District’s surface water treatment plant including monitoring, operating and adjusting controls on the water treatment plant, solids handling facility, and support equipment and machinery; monitoring, interpreting and making appropriate changes to water pressure, flow and chemicals via SCADA systems; taking samples and conducting standardized laboratory tests; making adjustments to various controls and operating plant equipment; and assisting with minor plant maintenance. To start, the candidate will start working day operations, but is also required to work necessary shifts.
To be considered, candidates must possess strong communication skills; strong sense of customer service; value integrity and trust; and possess strong organizational skills. Qualified candidates should possess a knowledge of principles and practices related to potable water treatment plant operations; knowledge of operating principles as it relates to water treatment plant equipment; an ability to conduct and interpret basic chemical water analysis; an ability to work an assigned shift and assist with maintenance and adjusting pumping and electrical equipment.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a course in chemistry.
Experience: Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a domestic water treatment facility.
Certification: Possession of a Grade III Water Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
The salary range is $36.96 - $44.35 per hour.
